Prep notes

Small ways to prepare together

Use a prep book to start a conversation before a new or challenging experience.

Before a new experience

Read together and look closely at the photos. Invite your child to notice the people, places, and steps they may see. Leave room for their questions.

When last time was hard

You can return to an experience your child already knows. Talk about what felt difficult last time, then use the pictures to explore what might happen on the next visit.

Let your child set the pace

Pause when your child wants to talk, skip back to a favorite page, or put the book down and return later. Preparation can be a conversation you revisit.
